African Clawed Frogs: Caught in Issaquah! Over 400 caught to date
The African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis) is a species of amphibian native to Sub-Saharan Africa. They are scavengers with a big appetite and will eat anything that they can fit in their mouth. This is a problem since they have been detected in the Lake Sammamish Basin, since baby salmon are like delicious little snacks to them. Trout Unlimited is currently trapping them and recording biometrics (length and weight). These frogs are also known to be virus carriers, so samples are being taken and tested for viruses as well.
